On the morning of June 9, 2015, 63-year-old delivery driver Thomas Childs arrived for his shift at Ridgway Industries in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. While preparing for his route in the loading dock area, a man approached him intending to rob him. A struggle followed and two shots were fired from a 9-millimeter handgun; the second shot struck Childs in the back and proved fatal. The assailant fled with about $20 and Childs’ company-issued cell phone.

A coworker arriving around that time provided a description of the man he saw, and a ping from the stolen phone led investigators to nearby Fernwood Cemetery shortly after the body was found. A reward was later offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. In June 2016 a warrant named Rodney Talbo Shelton II as the primary suspect. Shelton, a twice-convicted felon then reported to be 37 and known to frequent the Philadelphia area, was located and arrested on December 9, 2016, and later extradited to Pennsylvania to face charges.
