Ty Daniel Kimble, 40, was found dead along Warrensville Road in Loyalsock Township in the early morning hours of a December Sunday in 2014, the victim of a single gunshot wound. Police say the shooting followed a physical altercation between Kimble and his girlfriend, Sherri Scarantino, inside a vehicle; Kimble exited the car after being shot and was discovered on the roadside. An autopsy confirmed the gunshot as the cause of death.
Scarantino placed the 911 call and was taken in for questioning. Search warrants and interviews later recorded Scarantino’s account that Kimble had been ejected from a bar, she picked him up, an argument turned physical, he struck her in the face and choked her, and she retrieved a gun from the dashboard and shot him as he was choking her. She said Kimble fell from the vehicle and was dragged several hundred feet.
In November 2015 the Lycoming County District Attorney announced no homicide charges would be filed, concluding Scarantino acted in self-defense and reasonably feared for her life. In April 2016 she received 36 months probation for carrying a firearm without a license. Kimble’s family protested the decision and started a petition seeking charges.
