Dennis Fitzwater, 31, was killed in his friend’s home on Chestnut Street in Monessen, Pennsylvania, late on a Tuesday night in May 2014. Two masked gunmen entered the house around 11:30 p.m.; occupants reported no signs of forced entry. The men, described as two African American males with bandanas covering their faces, bound Fitzwater with duct tape and shot him once in the throat. He managed to get downstairs after being shot in an upstairs bedroom and collapsed in the kitchen, where he died. The other residents, including two small children who were asleep nearby, were not physically harmed.
Police characterized the attack as targeted. Nothing was reported stolen, and investigators connected the killing to Fitzwater’s past drug involvement; he had pleaded guilty to felony drug charges in 2008 and had been released from Westmoreland County Prison on May 17, 2014, after a recent arrest. An autopsy was scheduled and the scene was processed, but no public announcement of arrests or formal identification of suspects has been made.
Did anyone in Monessen at that time see or hear anything unusual about activity on Chestnut Street that night?
