On the night of March 22, 2009, in Morris Township, Pennsylvania, 70-year-old Betty Jane Amos McClellan was shot and killed during a violent home invasion at the couple’s mobile home. Her husband, Jacob Jake McClellan, answered a knock about 9:50 p.m. from an unshaven white man with shoulder-length brown hair in a ponytail who said he needed help with a flat tire. The man forced his way inside, brandished a gun and demanded money and firearms. Jake struggled with the intruder and was shot in the cheek and neck; Betty was shot in the back of the home and died of a single gunshot wound.
Jake escaped and hid between two parked cars, where he saw a white Ford Econoline van arrive, the shooter step out carrying a bag or pillowcase, then get into the van and leave. Jake was flown to a hospital and survived. No arrests have been announced and the homicide remains an open investigation.
Witnesses or anyone with information about the van or the intruder are asked to come forward.
