Reed P. Brown Sr., 80, was killed inside his Butler, Pennsylvania home on March 18, 1984. Prosecutors say he was shot in the head with a .22-caliber pistol while he slept; his wife, Pauline P. Brown, was shot in the back of the head moments later after coming to the kitchen. The killings were not described as a random break-in and the investigation quickly focused on family conflict.

Authorities tied the case to long-running tensions between Pauline and her daughter-in-law, Debra Lee Brown. Debra gave a lengthy statement to prosecutors about years of alleged verbal abuse and control over the younger couple, and she later pleaded guilty to criminal homicide. Judge John C. Dillon found her guilty of first-degree murder at a brief hearing and sentenced her to life in prison, sparing the death penalty on mitigating grounds and ordering her sent to the state women’s prison at Muncy.

Reed P. Does anyone have information about the household dynamics or events leading up to March 18, 1984?
