Seven-year-old Scott Olver Mazzillo of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, was killed on September 25, 1982, while visiting family at a trailer home in Jenkins Township. His death was part of the 1982 Wilkes-Barre shootings that left 13 people dead, including seven children.
The shooter, identified as George Emil Banks, forced his way into the trailer where Scott’s aunt Sharon Mazzillo lived and shot Sharon, her son Kissmayu, her mother Alice, and Scott. Banks then continued a wider rampage that targeted other locations and victims in the area. Banks was arrested and charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and later convicted and sentenced to death; questions about his mental competency led to stays of execution.
The surviving family members, including Scott’s cousins Keith and Angelo Mazzillo, were left to cope with profound loss and trauma. Does anyone have memories of Scott or information about the family in Jenkins Township that could add to the record?
