A domestic argument in the small Siam community near Elizabethton ended in a fatal shooting on December 4, 2022. Deputies from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at a residence on Countryside Drive and found 58-year-old Andrew Gilbertson suffering from three gunshot wounds. He was transported for medical treatment but died en route to the hospital.

The caller, 69-year-old Cynthia Ellis, who lived with Gilbertson, was waiting outside and was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators report the dispute began in the kitchen when Ellis asked Gilbertson to move from in front of the stove; the argument continued into the bedroom, where Ellis retrieved a handgun. Ellis told investigators she shot Gilbertson twice in the bedroom, then followed him to the kitchen and shot him a third time before calling 911.
