On a spring afternoon in Kingsport, Tennessee, a roadside dispute between two truck drivers ended in a fatal shooting. Alex Erik Miller, 42, of Edgewood, Maryland, was killed on May 20, 2022 after his northbound tractor-trailer and another semi made contact near the Airport Parkway exit. Both drivers pulled onto the shoulder and an argument escalated into violence when the other driver, described as a 34-year-old man, shot Miller.

The Kingsport Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded and interviewed the driver who remained at the scene and was reported to be cooperating. Detectives said they would forward findings to the district attorney general to determine whether charges should be filed; the investigation was described as ongoing.

No arrest or charging information has been publicly released through late 2025. If anyone witnessed the collision or the confrontation on Interstate 81 that afternoon, what did you see or hear?
