William Billy T. Eakes Jr., 55, was killed outside the Walmart Supercenter on Fort Campbell Boulevard in Clarksville, Tennessee, in the late hours of March 1, 2022. Eakes, a maintenance employee at the store, was found near the entrance with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly afterward. Security cameras captured the sequence from when a man entered after closing, took a drink and a bag of chips without paying, and was confronted by Eakes outside. That man, later identified as Christopher Clark, produced a firearm and shot Eakes multiple times before fleeing.
A K-9 unit tracked Clark to a wooded area behind a nearby Planet Fitness, where officers apprehended him and recovered a .380-caliber handgun that matched the shell casings from the scene. Clark was arrested and charged with first-degree murder; a jury later convicted him and he received a life sentence plus a consecutive 25-year term for being a felon in possession of a weapon. The family says the murder deeply affected them; Eakes’s daughter said the stress contributed to her mother’s rapid decline and death a month after his killing, and the Walmart where he worked erected a memorial in his honor.
Did anyone see Eakes or activity outside that Walmart on the night of March 1, 2022?
