A family gathering in Knoxville turned deadly on Halloween evening, October 31, 2021. Twenty-six-year-old J’Michael Dossett of Macon, Georgia, was attending a child’s birthday party at a home on Catalpa Avenue when a dispute over a child smearing frosting in his child’s hair escalated. Reports say Dossett’s ex-girlfriend became upset and an argument developed between the adults. The ex-girlfriend’s 16-year-old brother intervened, and Dossett fired a .380-caliber pistol into the air as a warning shot.
The teenager then produced a 9mm pistol and shot Dossett four times. Emergency personnel arrived around 6:30 p.m. and found Dossett with at least one gunshot wound; he was taken to UT Medical Center and pronounced dead. The juvenile suspect fled initially but later turned himself in and was charged on a juvenile petition with voluntary manslaughter; additional charges were described as possible while the investigation continued.
Are there witnesses who attended the party or neighbors who saw activity on Catalpa Avenue that evening who can clarify what happened?
