Donald Donnie Busby, 48, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound inside his car after it crashed into a telephone pole in the 4000 block of Catalpa Avenue in Knoxville on the afternoon of July 1, 2021. Paramedics took him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Busby was a husband, father of four, and a U.S. Army veteran. Family and friends remember him as intelligent, outgoing, a peacemaker and a familiar face in his community who loved life and had a great sense of humor.

As of late 2023, the Knoxville Police Department had not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests. Investigators say they are pursuing active leads and the family is asking anyone with information to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers.

Did anyone in the Knoxville area see anything on Catalpa Avenue that afternoon or know someone who might have information?
