Carlos Sweeney, 24, was found fatally shot inside an apartment on Longview Road in Knoxville in the early morning of Wednesday, June 23, 2021. Officers were first sent after a disconnected 911 call and, on a subsequent call, responded to reports of a gunshot victim; Sweeney was pronounced dead at the scene. The apartment’s door was reported open when officers arrived.

KPD’s Violent Crimes Unit has said the shooting does not appear to have been random and believes those responsible fled in a vehicle. Investigators have asked the public for video from Sutherland Avenue, Forest Park Boulevard, Forest Hills Boulevard, or Longview Road between 4:20 a.m. and 4:50 a.m. on the morning of the shooting. No suspects have been publicly identified or taken into custody, and a cash reward has been offered for tips that lead to an arrest.

Anyone who saw activity in that area during the specified time or who has information about the case is asked to come forward.
