HJ Levi Franklin Roberts was 19 when he was killed in Morristown, Tennessee, on June 7, 2021, just days after graduating from Morristown West High School on June 4. Known for an outgoing personality and a love of hunting and fishing, Roberts was shot during an evening incident at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Morningside Drive. Another man, 22-year-old Luis Gaona, was wounded in the same incident.

Initial reports described a fight among several people in an apartment that led to gunfire. About three weeks later, investigators announced arrests in the case: Marcus Roberts, Hayden Vick, and an unnamed juvenile. Police alleged the encounter had been a planned robbery, claiming Gaona had been lured to the apartment under the pretense of buying a gun, then locked inside, robbed at gunpoint and shot multiple times. HJ Roberts was described by police as a co-conspirator in the alleged robbery and was also shot during the events.
