Rusty LeRoy Bybee, 50, was found dead in a shed on his property on Breezie Point Lane in Dandridge, Tennessee, in April 2021 after co-workers reported him missing when he failed to show up for work for several days. Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and White Pine Police searched the family residence with the family’s permission and discovered Bybee’s body; he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Authorities named his wife, 47-year-old Julie Ann Pope-Bybee, as the primary suspect. According to the arrest warrant, she admitted to shooting him multiple times and was charged with first-degree murder; she was booked into the Jefferson County Detention Center on a $1 million bond. The 4th District Attorney General’s Office became involved in the case.
What details about Rusty’s last days or the couple’s situation might help explain what happened?
