Ronnie Turner, 64, was shot on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 12, 2021, on Brookside Avenue in Knoxville and later died after being taken in a private vehicle to Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. The Knoxville Police Department opened a homicide investigation following the shooting.

Police identified 48-year-old Rodney Harris, also of Knoxville, as a suspect and arrested him the next day at a home in the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue. Harris was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated assault. The investigation into what led to the shooting remained ongoing.
