On July 21, 2020, 36-year-old Phillip Sneed, a Black man from Detroit, Michigan, was found in the street on West Oak Hill Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene. Knoxville Police determined the shooting was not random and opened a violent-crimes investigation.
Investigators developed leads identifying 24-year-old Vondre Lamar Allen, also from the Detroit area, as a suspect. Police described a possible link to the drug trade and said investigators believed the shooting arose from an argument between Sneed and Allen amid an uptick in traffickers from Detroit operating in the region. The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Allen in Detroit on July 24, 2020, and a Knox County grand jury later indicted him on a first-degree murder charge.
If anyone has information about Sneed, the events on West Oak Hill Avenue, or the period leading up to July 21, 2020, please come forward.
