Shortly after midnight on April 28, 2020, officers responding to a call on the 2800 block of East 5th Avenue in Knoxville found 60-year-old Randolph Ingram lying in the street. Ingram, a Black/African American male, had been shot multiple times. He had apparently fled his home but was pursued and shot again in the back in the roadway.
A second victim, 38-year-old Ashley Marie Hurt, was found inside a nearby residence; she had been fatally shot in the head. The Violent Crimes Unit opened an intensive investigation into the double homicide. Arrest documents allege the violence began inside Ingram’s home when 30-year-old Lamar Mallett entered, shot Hurt, then shot Ingram and chased him into the street.
Lamar Mallett was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in Ingram’s death; an additional first-degree murder charge in Hurt’s death was added the next day. Anyone with information about either victim or that night’s events is asked to come forward.
