Zacharia Nahimana was 21 when he was fatally shot in the pre-dawn hours of June 9, 2019, near the Sunnight Lounge on Maryville Pike in Knoxville, Tennessee. Officers arrived about 2:40 a.m. to a chaotic scene and found Nahimana with life-threatening injuries; he was taken to a nearby hospital and died of those wounds. The incident was classified as a homicide.
Born July 19, 1998, in Tanzania, Zacharia—known as Ocho—moved to the United States with his family in February 2008. He attended Stone Mountain Middle School and Austin East High School and was working at a local McDonald’s at the time of his death. Friends and family remembered him for his uplifting smile and the joy he brought to others.
The Knoxville Police Department asked the public for help after the shooting. Does anyone have information that could help investigators bring answers to Zacharia’s family?
