Jerry Dean Holt Sr. was killed after an argument in North Knoxville on the evening of April 30, 2019. Police say officers responded just after 5 p.m. to a reported shooting at 311 North Broadway and found Holt, 40, with a gunshot wound. He was taken to UT Medical Center and died later that day.

Investigators reported Holt had been arguing with another man who then produced a firearm and shot him. The shooter fled the scene. A few days later, Knoxville Police arrested 30-year-old Gerald Tyshawn Henry in connection with the shooting; Henry was interviewed at the violent crimes unit and booked into the Knox County Detention Facility. In June 2019 a Knox County grand jury indicted Henry on second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon.
