On the evening of March 12, 2019, 23-year-old Makayla Laray Manning of Crossville, Tennessee, was fatally shot at a residence on Vandever Road. Two other people at the scene, Joseph Manning and Eleashea Alene Curry, were wounded in the same incident. A suspect, 47-year-old John Patrick Fields of Pikeville, was taken into custody at the scene.

Earlier that day investigators found the body of 47-year-old Lowell Chip Simmons II in a trash pile at a vacant lot on Critter Creek Road. Authorities linked Fields to that death as well. Fields was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Makayla Manning and Lowell Simmons II, and two counts of attempted first-degree murder for the injuries to Joseph Manning and Eleashea Curry. He was booked into the Cumberland County Jail on $5 million bond and later indicted and arraigned in Cumberland County Criminal Court.

Fields’ criminal history includes a 1998 conviction for voluntary manslaughter with time served in prison. Does anyone have information about Makayla’s last known movements or about the locations on Vandever Road or Critter Creek Road that could help the investigation?
