On the evening of January 19, 2019, 74-year-old Linda Damewood was shot and killed while resting in her recliner at a home on Cherokee Trail in the Lake Tansi community of Crossville, Tennessee. Two of her siblings, 63-year-old Andrew Schan and 73-year-old Ellen Cairns, were also wounded by gunfire and taken to Cumberland Medical Center; one was later transferred to a regional trauma center.
Investigators from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation identified 35-year-old Kirk Douglas Clark of Clarkrange as an acquaintance of the victim and arrested him during a traffic stop on January 22. His wife, 35-year-old Doneal Marie Clark, was in the vehicle and was initially detained on weapons charges after an illegal shotgun was found; both were convicted felons prohibited from possessing firearms.
Authorities later charged Doneal Clark with first-degree murder and charged Kirk Clark with first-degree murder, possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon. Both were booked into the Cumberland County Jail with bonds set at $2,020,000 for Kirk Clark and $2,000,000 for Doneal Clark. Officials said the motive was believed to be burglary and additional charges relating to the shootings of Schan and Cairns were to be presented to a grand jury.
Did anyone in Lake Tansi know the Damewood family or the Clarks and see anything suspicious around Cherokee Trail that week?
