On the morning of August 14, 2018, 31-year-old Kendall Rice was walking to catch a bus for his job in Madison, Tennessee when two men in a dark-colored sedan pulled up behind him on Alta Loma Road. They robbed him, shot him with a rifle and left him to die at the scene; his personal belongings were taken. Rice worked as a customer service representative for Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s parking and transportation services; his father and sister also worked there. Family accounts describe him as quiet, kind and deeply spiritual; the family had moved to Nashville from Chicago to escape violence.
Police say the attack on Rice occurred amid a brief crime spree in the area: about 15 minutes later another man was shot and critically wounded during an attempted robbery at a nearby apartment complex, and a third attempted robbery was reported nearby. In March 2019 authorities announced arrests of Demontrey Logsdon and Horace Williamson III and charged them with first-degree murder and especially aggravated robbery in Rice’s killing; Lacory Lytle was indicted on charges tied to the use of stolen cards from victims of the related East Nashville shooting.
Does anyone have information about Rice’s routine on Alta Loma Road or saw a dark-colored sedan in the pre-dawn hours that morning?
