On June 22, 2018, Errol Lyons, 39, was shot outside Sullivan’s Sports Bar in Smyrna, Tennessee. Police responded at about 1:00 a.m. and found Lyons unconscious in the parking lot; he was taken to StoneCrest Medical Center and died shortly after arrival.

Authorities identified and located a suspect, Marcus Jerome Brown, then 37, in Murfreesboro and took him into custody without incident. Brown was charged with first-degree murder in connection with Lyons’s death and was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault, employing a weapon during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, and resisting arrest. He was held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center and his trial was set for June 6 in Rutherford County Circuit Courts.

Lyons’s family retained counsel and raised questions about negligent security at the sports bar where the shooting occurred. Anyone with information about the shooting, the venue that night, or Lyons’s last hours is asked to come forward.
