DeEbony LaShea Groves, 21, was killed on April 22, 2018, in a mass shooting at a Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee. A senior at Belmont University, Groves was described as a bright, hardworking student. She was inside the restaurant when the shooter fired, one of four people killed that morning and several others wounded.
The attacker opened fire in the parking lot before moving into the restaurant with an AR-15-style rifle. The rampage was stopped when an unarmed customer, James Shaw Jr., wrestled the rifle away. The shooter fled, prompting a manhunt that ended with his capture near his apartment about 34 hours later.
The shooter had a record of disturbed behavior and prior encounters with law enforcement; authorities had previously revoked his firearms license and confiscated weapons that were later returned to him. He was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and other offenses. Does anyone have memories of DeEbony or information that could help fill gaps about her life and that night?
