DaRonte Herbert was 18 when he was found shot to death on Slaughter Pen Road in Dyersburg, Tennessee, on April 19, 2018. The death was ruled a homicide. His mother, Fameka Herbert, described him as a young man of God who enjoyed dancing and rapping and was the life of the party.
Investigators say Herbert was lured to Bean Mill Road, where the killing occurred. In June 2022 a Dyer County Grand Jury returned a secret indictment charging two men, Deshawn Gorman and Demauzay Jackson, with first-degree murder. Jackson was arrested June 13, 2022; Gorman, then 25, was captured in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 14, 2022, reportedly with a gun and was extradited to Dyer County to face the charges.
Anyone who knew DaRonte, saw him in Dyersburg in April 2018, or has information about the events on Bean Mill Road is asked to come forward.
