Michael Ruiz was 19 and a senior at Bolivar Central High School when he was shot dead while working at his aunt’s restaurant, El Ranchito, on the night of March 20, 2018. Born in Rioverde, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, he had lived most of his life in Hardeman County and was described as a devoted son, brother and a reliable employee who enjoyed fishing, basketball and the outdoors.

He was taken to Bolivar General Hospital but did not survive his injuries. The investigation led to arrests of three classmates and employees from Bolivar Central High School, including 19-year-old John Gray and two juveniles. In January 2020 a Hardeman County jury convicted Lavonta Lamar Douglas, who was 19 at the time of the offense, of first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery.

Does anyone who knew Michael or was in Bolivar that night have details that could add clarity to what happened?
