On the night of February 27, 2018, gunfire in a Clarksville, Tennessee home on Paradise Hill Road left 41-year-old Aaron P. Johnson mortally wounded. He was shot multiple times, taken to Tennova Medical Center, and pronounced dead. Investigators say the shooting followed a confrontation inside the house.
Police identified 25-year-old Rashaud D. Watson as the shooter. Watson was the boyfriend of Johnson’s adult daughter and reportedly entered the home he shared with Johnson, produced a firearm, and fled after the shooting. The daughter was initially a concern but contacted police and was confirmed safe; she was not considered a suspect. Watson later turned himself in the next day.
Reports link the motive to Johnson’s status as a registered sex offender with a prior violent conviction involving children. Defense counsel argued Watson believed he was protecting the daughter and pointed to prior threats by Watson against Johnson. Watson was originally charged with first-degree murder and later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, receiving a 20-year prison sentence in December 2019.
Did anyone in Clarksville know Aaron Johnson or have information about tensions between him and his daughter’s circle?
