Adam Christopher Davis, 32, was found dead at his Highland View Drive home in South Knoxville in the early morning hours of December 31, 2016 after a friend discovered him around 3 a.m. A Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigation determined he had been killed the previous day, December 30, 2016, by multiple gunshot wounds. His body was examined at the Knox County Regional Forensic Center.

Investigators soon identified 32-year-old Nicholas Scates as the suspect; Scates was arrested on January 6, 2017, and charged with first-degree murder. Authorities also took Scates’s 21-year-old girlfriend, Sacha Kirkpatrick, into custody on an outstanding Georgia warrant. Friends and family remembered Davis as caring and trusting, with a passion for gaming and anime.
