On November 13, 2016, 17-year-old Caleb Arwood was found shot to death in an alley off Jourolman Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee. Knoxville Police located his body just before 4:30 a.m.; he had been shot multiple times. Relatives described Caleb as a troubled kid with a good heart who had spent time in a group home and was trying to turn his life around, though he had recently reconnected with people and activities that had led him into trouble.
The investigation produced a person of interest after a chase in the Ridgebrook Apartments complex. In April 2017 a Knox County Grand Jury indicted 19-year-old Bryant Christopher Mitchell on first-degree murder charges in connection with Caleb’s death; the indictment alleged Mitchell was a Gangster Disciples member and noted prior convictions in his record. In August 2019 Mitchell was found guilty of first-degree murder; trial testimony described Mitchell shooting Caleb repeatedly, including shots to the head, and Mitchell received a life sentence with no parole eligibility for at least 51 years.
If anyone knew Caleb, his movements that night, or has information about the people he had reconnected with, please share what you know.
