On Halloween night 2016 a domestic disturbance at a Cleveland, Tennessee home ended with the shooting death of 45-year-old James Michael ’Tooter’ Cheatham. Known locally as a former boxer and a self-employed businessman, Cheatham was a married father of two. Officers who responded found him with three gunshot wounds to his torso; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, Miranda Cheatham, admitted to shooting him and claimed it was self-defense. Their teenage son was reportedly in the house during the incident. A Bradley County Grand Jury later indicted Miranda Cheatham for second-degree murder. The case proceeded through trial, which resulted in a guilty verdict and an 18-year prison sentence; appeals raising issues about the investigation and trial were denied and the conviction affirmed.

If anyone knew James, Miranda, or the household and has information about the night of October 31, 2016, please come forward.
