On the evening of Sunday, June 5, 2016, 34-year-old Lemar Thomas, a Black man from Madison, Tennessee, was shot and later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after a confrontation in the Berkley Hills Apartments parking lot. Earlier that night a man identified as 30-year-old James DeMoss had reportedly assaulted and threatened his wife and two other people inside the complex. One of those victims called for help and told Thomas that DeMoss was armed and making threats.

Thomas went to the parking lot armed with a rifle and encountered DeMoss. Witnesses say DeMoss fired at Thomas while Thomas was holding his weapon down. Thomas was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died shortly after arrival. DeMoss later turned himself in and was charged with criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count of reckless endangerment; bond was set at $1,250,000.

Are there witnesses or anyone with more details about what happened in the parking lot that night?
