On the evening of February 20, 2016, 32-year-old Brandon Michael Edmondson, Sr. was shot on the 200 block of Rio Vista Drive in Madison, Tennessee and later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The shooting followed an argument that began between Edmondson and a woman; David L. Sullivan, who was at the scene, reportedly asked Edmondson to leave her alone. According to the Metro Nashville Police investigation, Edmondson then turned his aggression toward Sullivan and Sullivan fired a single shot from a handgun that struck Edmondson.

Sullivan remained at the scene and said he acted in self-defense. Detectives reviewed evidence and witness statements and referred the matter to the District Attorney’s office.
