On November 15, 2015, 26-year-old G’Metrik Ahmad Caldwell of Knoxville was shot and killed outside the driver’s side of his Kia Optima on Linden Avenue. Police responded to reports of shots fired around 5:23 p.m.; Caldwell was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and died shortly after arrival. Investigators recovered a handgun and shell casings inside and around the vehicle.
Within days officers identified two teenage suspects. Police executed a search warrant on November 18, 2015, detaining 16-year-old Tyshon Booker at a Martin Mill Pike residence and locating 17-year-old Bradley Robinson on Cassell Valley Way. Both were charged with felony murder and aggravated robbery and initially held at the juvenile facility.
Court records describe the shooting as occurring during a robbery. Booker and Robinson had been riding in Caldwell’s car when Booker allegedly shot Caldwell multiple times after the vehicle was pulled over; the pair then fled with the victim’s cell phone. Booker later admitted to shooting Caldwell but said it was self-defense. Anyone with information about G’Metrik Caldwell or that evening’s events is asked to come forward.
