On July 30, 2014, Cody Dwight Dowdy, 22, and his father Danny Dwight Dowdy, 58, were found shot to death inside the family’s package store, the Sugar Shack, in Static, Tennessee. Family members confirmed both men had been shot and the scene became the focus of a homicide investigation.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation led the inquiry and on August 1, 2014, investigators arrested 34-year-old Joshua Clay Pyles of Monticello, Kentucky. Investigators say Pyles had been at the Sugar Shack that day, stayed until other customers left, left to retrieve a handgun, then re-entered and shot Danny and Cody Dowdy. Pyles later admitted he shot both men a second time and then took about $400 from the register before fleeing.
Pyles was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and later entered guilty pleas to two counts of premeditated murder and an especially aggravated robbery charge, and received a 69-year prison term. Did anyone in the community have contact with the Dowdys or Pyles around July 30, 2014, who hasn’t yet spoken to investigators?
