Justin DWayne Clark, a 21-year-old Black man, was shot and killed on the evening of Thursday, February 2, 2012, near the campus of Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. He was taken to a nearby hospital but did not survive.
Investigators identified 22-year-old Demario Pirtle as the person who fired the weapon during a dispute that escalated into violence. Pirtle was arrested by the Jackson Police Department and charged with second-degree murder. He later pleaded guilty and received a 20-year prison sentence in Madison County court.
Justin Clark’s death ended a life and hopes tied to a college community; the sentencing closed the criminal case in court. Does anyone who lived near Lane College at the time remember details about the dispute or the night of February 2, 2012?
