Kay Marie Scarlett, 68, was found shot to death in her Joshua, Texas home on October 6, 2022. Her husband, 66-year-old Mike Scarlett, was also discovered dead at the scene. Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office located the couple after a family member reported being unable to reach them. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled both deaths homicides.

Authorities identified the couple’s 28-year-old son, Samuel Scarlett, as a person of interest. Samuel was found in possession of the couple’s truck in a Fort Worth hospital parking lot and was arrested for unauthorized use of a vehicle. Investigators say DNA evidence linked Samuel to the scene, including a match to blood on his shoes and to the murder weapon; he was later charged with capital murder and held on $1.5 million bond at the Johnson County Jail while awaiting trial.
