Jorge Gonzalez was 23 when he was killed on October 1, 2022, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was found dead in the parking lot of a convenience store at 711 Central Freeway with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and head; the shooting occurred about 4:51 p.m. that day.

Witnesses say Gonzalez had been involved in a physical altercation that morning around 8 a.m. on North Eighth Street with 24-year-old Adan Chavez, and that Chavez threatened to get a gun and come back. Police responded that morning to multiple incidents at Gonzalez’s residence, including reports of gunshots and the house being shot multiple times. Later in the afternoon Chavez and Gonzalez were seen arguing in the convenience store parking lot, and witnesses say Chavez retrieved a firearm from a cooler in his truck and shot Gonzalez. Cartridge casings and live cartridges were recovered at the scene and from the truck, two eyewitnesses identified Chavez as the shooter, and investigators matched the gun’s caliber to cartridges found at Gonzalez’s residence.

On October 22, 2022, a search warrant was executed at Chavez’s residence and Chavez was arrested; he was charged with murder and had a federal arrest warrant for human smuggling, with bond set at $1 million. If anyone has information about Jorge, the altercation that morning, or the events at the convenience store parking lot, please share what is known.
