Adam Jeremiah Maes was a 17-year-old Hispanic student at Caprock High School in Amarillo, Texas, remembered by his family as kind, generous and driven toward a goal of owning a business. He treasured his role helping his family and was described as having a smile that could light up a room.
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on September 14, 2022, officers responded to an apartment complex in the 2800 block of North Grand Street for a reported shooting. Adam was found with a gunshot wound, taken to a local hospital, and died of his injuries. The Amarillo Police Department’s Homicide Unit opened an investigation.
Authorities arrested two brothers, 18-year-old Kezabien Dionte Mayes and 19-year-old Javonne Demontre Mayes, and later a third man, Keshawn Latrell Horn, in connection with the killing. A 14-year-old girl was also taken into custody and charged with engaging in criminal activity. An indictment says the three men were in the process of robbing Adam when he was shot and killed.
If anyone knew Adam, was in that neighborhood on the night of September 14, 2022, or has information about what happened, please share what is known.
