On the night of August 13, 2016, eight-year-old Montell M. Ross and his 9-year-old cousin Jayden Ugwuh were shot inside a Kansas City, Missouri home where they had been playing video games after attending church. Reports say as many as two dozen rounds were fired into the residence; investigators believe shooters stood on either side of the house and that someone inside may have been the intended target.
Both boys were taken to hospital and died of their wounds. A 16-year-old girl in the home was wounded but her injuries were not life-threatening. Family described Montell as a mama’s boy who liked cartoons and video games. The murders remain unsolved; no arrests or publicly identified suspects have been reported and the case went cold.
Did anyone in the community know the boys, who they spent time with, or remember anything unusual around that night?
