On June 23, 2022, Lauren Rachel Kelley, 36, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom of her Kyle, Texas, home after a shooting that also killed 43-year-old Shayne Robert Loupe. Kyle police responded to a 9:20 p.m. call reporting a shooting while another adult and a child were inside; the child was located unharmed and removed from the residence. Officers say the shooter was armed and uncooperative with dispatch during the 911 call and claimed to have a device strapped to himself, prompting SWAT and other emergency personnel to be sent to the scene.

Autopsies for both victims were ordered by the Hays County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 to determine exact causes of death. The Kyle Police Department has described the incident as isolated and said there is no continuing danger to residents. The investigation remains open and no arrests have been announced.
