Carson Blake Collins, 16, of Tomball, Texas, was murdered on June 2, 2022, at the family ranch in Centerville, Texas. He was one of five family members killed that day — his grandfather Mark Collins, 66; brothers Waylon, 18, and Hudson, 11; and cousin Bryson Collins, 11. The medical examiner ruled the manner of death homicide; investigators reported all five victims sustained gunshot wounds and stab or other sharp force injuries.
Authorities say the killings were carried out by Gonzalo Lopez, an escaped prisoner who allegedly broke into the ranch, stole the family truck, and took an AR-15-style rifle and a pistol before fleeing. The bodies were found during a welfare check around 6 p.m. on June 2; Lopez was later killed in a shootout with police in Atascosa County after a brief chase in the stolen truck.
The family was described by community members and their pastor as well known for faith and kindness, and a vigil was held in Tomball.
