Ruben Chato Trevino Jr., 38, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was shot and found dead inside a home on Dodd Drive on May 31, 2022. He was born in Taft, Texas, to Ruben Guzman and Frances T. Nguyen and is survived by his mother, three children — Alana Trevino, Ruben Trevino III, and Devawn lil papa of San Antonio — and sisters with whom he was close. Family remembered him as joyful and caring.

Investigators identified 24-year-old Trevor Lang as the suspect. Lang was arrested near Galveston on August 19, 2022, and charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence. Court filings and Lang’s allocution tied the shooting to a dispute between friends over drugs; Lang accepted a plea deal and was later sentenced to 25 years in prison with the possibility of parole.
