Jose Manuel Flores Jr. was a 10-year-old Latino boy killed on May 24, 2022, during the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. He died among 19 children and 2 teachers in one of the deadliest school shootings in the state. On the day he was killed he was proudly holding a certificate for making the honor roll; he was known for being helpful around the house and for loving baseball and video games.
The shooter, an 18-year-old male, barricaded himself in a fourth-grade classroom and carried out the attack. Law enforcement officers eventually killed the gunman. Investigations reported the shooter had legally purchased two AR-15-style rifles shortly after his 18th birthday. The shooting prompted scrutiny of the law enforcement response, including reports of significant delays in confronting the shooter, and led families, including Jose’s, to file lawsuits alleging negligence by the school district, law enforcement, and the gun manufacturer.
Does anyone have information about Jose’s school community or the days leading up to May 24, 2022 that could help understand what happened?
