Chris Doerue, 25, was shot and killed during a family celebration on May 8, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas. The gathering on N. Johnson Street marked a pregnancy celebration for his brother Alpha. Two young men, identified in reports as Leonard Hakizimana and Jeremiah Ntirampeba, arrived and behaved suspiciously. Chris escorted them to their car to keep the peace; as he turned back to speak with his mother, Annie Doerue, he was shot in the back of the head and fell to the ground.

Chris was taken to a nearby hospital and later died of his injuries. His brother King attempted to confront the shooters but was deterred by threats of further violence. The two men fled the scene, were later arrested, and were charged and indicted on murder-related counts. Chris is remembered by family and community members for his dedication to helping others and his kind nature.
