Jose Damian Garcia Rodriguez was an 18-year-old Hispanic man who died in a shooting in Garland, Texas, on May 7, 2022. Born May 5, 2004, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, he was the youngest of six boys, worked in construction and had been saving to visit his father in Mexico. Friends and family remember him for his love of music, dance and making others laugh.

Police say a disturbance outside a house party in the 800 block of Magnolia Drive escalated into a gunfight around 11:45 p.m. Multiple people opened fire; Jose and a 17-year-old friend, Melvin Germain Salas, were killed and two others were wounded. Garland police arrested two men at the scene, Jesus Saldana, 21, and Christopher Torres, 22, both charged with murder; a third 22-year-old man was later arrested and charged as well. Investigators reported that both suspects and the victims fired shots, but the exact sequence of events remains unclear.
