Melvin Germain Salas was 17 and from Garland, Texas. He was one of two teenagers fatally shot shortly before midnight on May 7, 2022, outside a house party on Magnolia Drive. The disturbance that night escalated into gunfire; 18-year-old Jose Damian Garcia was also killed and two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Garland Police arrested 21-year-old Jesus Saldana and 22-year-old Christopher Torres at the scene, and a third suspect, 22-year-old Omar Sebastian Caballero, was arrested two days later and charged with murder. A grand jury later indicted Caballero on murder charges but declined to indict Saldana and Torres, citing insufficient evidence.

The shooting is described as having begun after an argument outside the party. The investigation is ongoing and authorities have asked anyone with information to come forward.
