Chris Alan Nix, 38, of Colorado City, Texas, was shot once in the chest during an altercation near Lake Colorado City on April 29, 2022 and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The shooting happened on Lois Lane; no other injuries were reported. Nicholas Leyse, 43, was taken into custody soon after and charged with murder, aggravated assault, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Leyse also fired a shot into an occupied mobile home; fortunately no one inside was harmed.

Leyse was held in the Mitchell County Jail on combined bonds of $165,000 while the investigation continued. Chris is survived by his wife, Amy, their three children Nathan, Ryan, and Natalie, and his sister Deanna Woodard. A memorial service was held May 10, 2022.
