Ibory Dale Teddy Taylor, 21, of Hawkins, Texas, was fatally shot at JJ’s Fast Stop convenience store in Hawkins on April 29, 2022, at about 9:15 a.m. He was found in critical condition and later died at a local hospital. Friends and family remembered him at funeral services on May 7, 2022, at New Zion Baptist Church, with burial at Waters Bluff Cemetery in Winona.
Twenty-year-old Devin Jevon Harper was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting. The arrest affidavit reports Harper said he acted in self-defense, but police reviewed security camera footage that showed Harper pulling a handgun on Taylor and shooting him multiple times before fleeing in a vehicle; Harper was later taken into custody. Bond was set at $1 million. The Hawkins Police Department, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers handled the investigation; authorities have not released the video evidence to the public.
The shooting was reportedly linked to an argument over a girlfriend. Does anyone have information about that morning at JJ’s Fast Stop or about Taylor’s movements leading up to the shooting?
