Sixteen-year-old Lauren Juma, a Nimitz High School student from Humble, Texas, was shot to death on April 29, 2022. That night she contacted her mother and sister, saying she was afraid and reporting that her mother’s boyfriend, 60-year-old Van Henry Brisbon, was acting strangely; she FaceTimed her mother and called her sister asking to be picked up. When the sister arrived she found Brisbon holding Lauren at gunpoint. Deputies heard gunfire and Lauren’s screams as they approached.

Lauren was found inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds; Brisbon was arrested outside. Investigators reported evidence indicating an attempted sexual assault prior to the shooting, including Lauren’s pants pulled down to her knees and Brisbon’s pants down at the time of arrest. The motive remains unknown. Lauren had hoped to join the military or become a police officer after graduation; her family says the loss has devastated them.

If anyone knew Lauren, the household, or saw activity near the home that night, please share what might help the investigation.
