James E. Pierce, a 54-year-old African-American man, was found dead inside his St. Louis home in the 3700 block of California Avenue on the afternoon of Monday, April 18, 2016. An initial suspicious death probe was opened; an autopsy later determined he had been fatally shot and the case was reclassified as a homicide.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Homicide Division conducted a neighborhood canvass and collected evidence at the scene. No suspects, persons of interest, arrests, or charges have been publicly identified, and the investigation is now described as a cold case.
